ralph
Ralph and Jack compare and contrast speeches Ralph from LOTF and Jack from Lost both tell a speech to the whole group. Someone was more successful than the other.
In LOTF, Ralph tries to convince everyone that they need to take their situation more seriously. He talks about how they need to work on getting rescued. He gets very mad at them. Even though he is thinking about the group, he in very bossy and not letting anyone else speak. He is also being very negative.

In Lost, Jack is focussing more on surviving. He is not focusing all of his attention on just being rescued. In his speech he gets straight to the point and he doesn't talk for too long . Ralph on the other hand makes the mistake of talking for too long and loses their attention towards the end. Everyone listens to jack and they also agree with him. They all want to be rescued. They just have different ways of showing it.
I think that jack was more successful in the end. He really gets everyone to realize that they need to work together. Jack is also much older than Ralph and he is a doctor so he will be able to take care of the others.
I think that it’s better that Jack emerged as a leader rather than being picked because it shows that he has the potential to be a good leader. Ralph had some good ideas on how to get rescued, but he needs to get more to the point and focus more on surviving rather than just being rescued. Jack should maybe focus a little on being rescued. He is focusing ALL his attention on surviving.

Ginger Rue’s “Brand New Emily”. A book full of drama Brand New Emily , by Ginger Rue is full of drama. This is what the book delivers. With just a little bit of romance. Brand New Emily, a book by Ginger Rue is about a girl named Emily whose mom died when she was little. She and her father decided to move back to be closer to her uncle. At the new school she attends she is bullied repeatedly by a group of mean girls called the Daisies. She is so tired of being pushed around by them and everyone else, so she decides to improve her self with a little help from a top PR firm. She wants to become like the group of girls that she is trying to defeat. Brand New Emily is an engaging book written for young adults with a sense of romance and wanting to belong. I loved this book and found myself not being able to put it down. This novel is told in first person so you can really understand what she’s going through and for certain people relate to her. I really enjoy the plot of the book because it grabbed my attention and made me want to keep reading. It’s a perfect mix of drama and romance. I definitely love the writing style because it keeps me wondering what will happen next. It makes me want to skip ahead and see what happens next. “have you ever seen Marcita Diaz?” “no” “Then how do you know it wasn't her?” (145)This is very mysterious and keeps you wondering who it really was. She is extremely descriptive in her writing. You can really tell how someone is feeling, or what someone looks like. “His jeans had holes in the knees and hung loosely below his waist” (36) Brand New Emily is a chick flick that the ordinary girl would love. It has a hint of romance, drama, and a sad backstory. I would recommend this book to all girl. It’s a book you can really get into. Malcolm Gladwell blog Response The main thing that stood out to me in the chapter was about how tall people are treated differently than short people. The article says that "height, particularly in men, triggers a certain set of very positive unconscious associations." I think the takeaway message would have to be that many people make quick judgements about people we don't even know. This is what we would call a unconscious association. We should take this chapter into consideration with leadership because some people may think that tall people would make better leaders than tall people or the other way around. I think that we can undo our unconscious biases. It might be hard because you might not know that you have a unconscious bias unless someone points it out to you. I think that people should look for more than just attractiveness when choosing a leader. You should look for intelligence, trustworthy, unbiased, encouraging, mand hardworking people. You need to focus on whats on the inside not just whats on the outside. I took the test on the flowers vs insects. I went into the test pretty much knowing what my results were going to be. I'm not a very big fan of bugs. As I predicted my results showed a strong automatic preference for flowers compared to insects. I also took the race test. I didn't know what my results were going to be because like I said earlier sometimes you don't know if you've been going threw your life making unconscious biases about people unless someone points it out to you. My results showed a moderate automatic preference for European American compared to African American. I was surprised. I wasn't sure what that meant at first. Now that I have re read it I think it means i prefer white people, which is not true. I have friends of many different races, so this took me by surprise.

Monday late starts VS. Tuesdat late starts Monday late starts Vs. Tuesday late starts Monday late starts are better than Tuesday late starts. Students are usually really tired on Mondays, and with the Monday late starts you get to sleep in. Its perfect! You get to ease into the week. Also, everyone ends the school day at the same time which is really nice. Another great thing is if you don't have a sport after school, you can talk to teachers because they wont have an A period after school. On the other hand, Tuesday late starts are better than Monday late starts because sometimes it's nice to get out early. If you have a sport after school and you don't have an A period, then you can relax for an hour before you have to go run or swim or whatever you have to do. the is a great time to catch up on some homework. But again if you don't have an A period or a sport you can get out early. Overall, Monday late starts are better than Tuesday late starts.
