In the book, "The Dumbest Generation," by Mark Bauerlein, the U.S. Department of Eduacation has students take different tests and survsys to inform people hiw technology affects kids. They call this generation the information age because we have so much information in the palm of our hands. Most of the surveys show that students didnt know alot about history in science ect. They state that ''the young american mind hasnt opened'' (9). They argue that we spend to much time on social media, and not enough time paying attention to the world around us.

Explain one of the main themes that emerged throughout the book.
A theme that emerged throughout the book that I found important was you don't know how much you care about someone until their gone. Towards the end of the book, Nick starts paying less and less attention to his best friend Jamie. Nick didn't know how much he really cared about Jamie until he thought he would loose him forever. "All he felt was guilt. He'd made Jamie mad; that's why he hadn't braked at the intersection. Nick hated himself"'. Nick felt really bad for yelling at Jamie. Now hat he thought he would never see him again, he realized how mean he had been. Nick felt like a horrible friend and a horrible person. You shouldn't be mean to your friends when their just trying to help you, because you never know if that will be the last thing you say to them.

Discussions question #2
Explain whether Erebos has effected Nick's life in a positive or negative way.
Erebos has effected Nicks life in a Negative way. It is effecting him, his school work, family, and friends. The messenger in the game is having the players do dangerous things outside of the game that have very serious consequences. In chapter 20, the messenger is getting angry at Mr. Watson, a teacher at his school, for trying to stop everyone from playing the game. He has Nick go on a quest that will then make him a level eleven and could get him into the inner Circe. "You are to tip the contents into Mr.Watson's thermos". Not knowing what he's getting himself into, he agrees. When nick is about to drop the pills into the thermos he reads the back of the pill bottle. It says "Danger: An overdose can be fatal!"(261) Nick knew that if he put the pills in his thermos he could get very sick and maybe even die. Nick could not get the courage to do it. When the messenger finds out he didn't follow out with his order, he is kicked out of the game, just because he didn't have the courage to kill a teacher. The game also takes away the time he could be working on school work. He gets little to no sleep causing him to miss school and his grades to slip. "Yes, Dad. Sorry. No, it's really tasty. I'm just a bit tired"(105). He has been up so late playing his game that Nick is falling asleep at the dinner table and not listening to his dad.
